Kantha, a popular style of embroidery that originates from West Bengal, is a significant symbol that demonstrates the skill and talent of rural women in Bengal. Kantha, which essentially means ‘gorge', is associated with Lord Shiva. The story revolves around how Lord Shiva consumed the poison while waving the ocean, and thus the meaning of this word goes all the way back to the Vedic epoch.
